A possible new franchise for The Conjuring universe. The story is based on an old Mexican folk tale created to keep the children in line and stay obedient to their parents. The movie was shot with the high cinematic standard we expect from James Wan’s horror franchise. The story cleverly isolate two third of the movie in the big old carvenous house of the main characters’ in downtown LA. The first half hour of the movie provide the backstory set up and from then on, the movie cranked up the scare fully and mercilessly ’till the end. I have to say the ending was typical Hollywood but by that point I was just glad that the scary moments are over. Now that, is exactly what I expect from a good, scary horror movie.
