The Good Liar – Very predictable…

I really want this to be one of those clever British grift flick that crackle and pop with top notch acting and ingenious script, but I suppose my expectation was set way too high. The story weave around to show the perspective of the con man played by Ian McKellen who go about his life conning people any chance he get. Then on this one occasion, he landed on a supposed big whale in the form of Dame Helen Mirren. But modern audiences already suspected this kind of movie will not be a straight forward con job and what do you know??? The audiences’ intuition was right. However, the film maker throw a complicated and dark backstory to justify the reason for the twist in the third act. It did not improve the storyline nor did it increase the level of intrigue to the movie. Despite the weak plot line, the acting by both leads are top notch as always. I just wish they get to spar in a movie with a better script that’s worthy of their supreme talents.
