Reminiscence– A perfect pairing of leads in a movie

After seeing this movie, I was curious who writer/director Lisa Joy is because I never heard or seen her name in any director’s credit before. After a brief researched, turned out she is the sister-in-law of director Christopher Nolan and is the co-creator and executive producer of the HBO show Westworld. That is why on her directorial debut, she is able to land heavy weight like Hugh Jackman, Thandiwe Newton, and the smoking Rebecca Ferguson as leads. Hugh and Rebecca, what a pairing as a couple in a movie. Talk about perfect casting here. The cinematography is also incredibly lush and gorgeous. If anything, the movie has all the elements that could make it a great movie. But why is this movie totally butchered by critic and especially, common audience reviews?
If you care to look around the reviews this movie get, they were not just bad over all, this movie was crucified and dragged across the unpaved road!
I have just watched this movie and in my opinion, it is not THAT bad. I thoroughly enjoy the cinematography, the perfect pairing and chemistry between the two leads, and the mystery and the romance that lead viewers to associate it with the film noir of old. This is definitely no THE NIGHT HOUSE, which has horrendously bad script to work with. Maybe the other audiences have too high an expectation when it come to this movie. Maybe I check my judgement at the door before going in. I can’t speak for them but for me, I thoroughly enjoy the two hours spent watching it.
