Three Thousand Years of Longing – it bombs because…

There is a reason why this movie bomb so hard. The very first reason is its trailer. The studio’s marketing machine have a clever idea of cutting a trailer to a romantic drama movie to look like an adventurous, CGI-laden, action-filled movie to attract fans of director George Miller who love his Mad Max franchise. That was the biggest misstep the movie studio ever made. People going in to see a specific kind of movie based on its trailer and confronted with an entirely different genre of movie in the cinema. It angers the audiences and when word of mouth spread, it buries the movie regardless how good that movie is for its intended genre. How does any movie studio never learn from this trailer bait and switch practice is beyond me. This is by no mean a bad movie. Too bad it will never recoup its budget and will be scurry out of cinemas real soon due to its poor box office performance. If being promote properly. this movie can have the potency of Ang Lees’ Life of Pi albeit being unable to keep the interest of its audience due to its meandering story telling style. The best thing in this movie is it’s epic original soundtrack that will melt your heart just from listening. If only the movie can produce a fraction of that feeling, this movie would have been saved from its heavy thud to the bottom of the movie bomb.
